Newsletter Term 4, 2024 Week 4
Principal's Update
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Term 4 Week 4! Groovin the Green is on this Friday! This event was postponed from the beginning of 2024 due to inclement weather and it has been a long wait for daylight saving to return to us so we can hold our community event with St Brigid’s. It’s going to be lovely seeing you all there. Please take care when driving in Carters Road because of pedestrians. We will have parking wardens and our carpark will be open and then locked at 7pm. Lake Munmorah High School has also offered their carpark which will also be locked at 7pm.
Thank you Year 3 for organising our whole school mass last Friday on All Saints Day. Congratulations to all children on your singing and participation!
Year 5 children had their leadership camp last Thursday and Friday at Camp Toukley. This time away is a valuable opportunity for all children to explore their ideas of what qualities make good leadership and how they might possess some of these qualities. They were fed well, the activities were fun, they were blessed with the weather during the daytime and I’m hoping they slept well on the Friday night when they returned home!
KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION/TRANSITION. Next week is our Teddy Bears’ picnic for our Kindergarten 2025 children and they will also meet their current Year 4 buddies. Thank you Year 4 for being so kind to our new Kindergartens and their families.
Our Kindergartens 2025 will find out this week who their Kindergarten teacher will be! We are excited to announce our Kindergarten teachers 2025:
Mrs Madeleine Loneragan
Miss Alana Roberts
Miss Nikki Caflisch
Both Mrs Loneragan and Miss Roberts are two of our current Kindergarten teachers and I would like to extend a very warm welcome to Miss Caflisch who is also an experienced Kindergarten teacher coming from a school also in the Catholic Schools Broken Bay system. Don’t worry Mrs McDonnell is not leaving us – just moving grades! All other teachers will be communicated to the school community when confirmed. I would like to avoid sending you a draft of teachers and then change at the last minute!
You are invited to attend our PAG (Parent Advisory Group) meeting on Tuesday, 19th November at 5.30pm in our Year 5 area in the Stage 3 building. At this meeting I would like to present information on Cybersafety for Parents. This will include information about keeping children safe at school and also how parents/carers can keep their children safe at home.
I have sent out information regarding the formation of a year 3/4 Green Composite class – all Year 2 and 3 families received a letter last Friday explaining the opportunity to be in the 3/4 composite class. We also had a zoom meeting for any parents in our current years 2 and 3 that could make it. Below are a few slides we presented. On our zoom a parent asked if this could change, as it did this year. I have sent through an email to our head office and I will get back to you if things change.
Mr Matthew Chandler will be teaching the 3/4 Green classroom. I would like to reiterate our discussion on the zoom that ALL classes are composite classes, there is not one class anywhere in the world that all children are at the same place in their learning. We differentiate for each child and teach to where they are at in their learning and of course we take into consideration their social and emotional levels also. Our 3/4 Green will be a regular classroom containing children at various levels just as the children will be in Year 3 Red, Year 3 Blue, Year 4 Red and Year 4 Blue! All of the Year 3s will participate in their activities together and all of the Year 4s will participate in their activities together.
Our SBLM community garden is looking healthy, however, I have been told that we are over-watering it! Also I was with the Year 6 children this week whilst learning about their science unit and their amazing greenhouses! Well done boys and girls!
Congratulations to Jett who was presented with a State Rugby championships certificate. Well done.
A handful of Stage 2 children will be attending the TechMatics Day at St Peter’s, Tuggerah on Tuesday, 12th November. We hope you enjoy the experience and learn many new tricks focusing on technology and problem solving.
Our Year 2 intensive swimming program will take place in Week 6 this term at Swansea Pool.
Congratulations to both Blake C and Brando A in Year 6 for being our very deserving recipients of the Citizenship Award 2024 sponsored by Northlakes Toukley Rotary. Both boys and their families are invited to attend The Doyalson RSL on Monday 18th November to receive their awards. Very proud of both Blake and Brando!
On Saturday 26th Oct Kiri competed in LCC Triple Challenge in Sydney where she competed in both Technical and Artistic divisions. Kiri placed 3rd in her Freeskate 2 Technical division and 1st in Artistic!
Good luck to William N. who will be competing on Friday, 8th November 2024, at the UNAA Nationals for Ninja!
We are hoping you can support the World Diabetes Day. This day, the children are invited to wear blue (appropriate comfortable clothing with closed in shoes and hat) to school. You can either send in a gold coin or use the link in this flyer and donate online! It’s on next Thursday 14th November!
Year 6 will also be hosting a fundraising mufti day on Monday, Week 7 – 25th November. A theme will be communicated shortly!
God Bless,
Charlene Reid

Assistant Principal Update
A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE
Kiarni Wells, in Year 3, recently had the opportunity to attend a private swimming session with Olympian Michael Klim in Bali. His session challenged her, as Kiarni had to swim in a whirlpool in the opposite direction. She worked with Michael on her diving and turns. Michael also provided Kiarni with some stroke corrections so she could improve her performance. Kiarni said the session was challenging and left her physically exhausted. Michael encouraged Kiarni to follow her dreams and become an Olympic Swimmer!

Religious Education
Our Mission Leaders recently had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Diocesean Mission Mass at Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral, Waitara. They joined other Year 6 leaders from across the Diocese to celebrate the incredible work of Catholic Mission, with a special focus on World Mission Month.
The event was a beautiful gathering that highlighted the importance of mission work and the impact it has on communities around the world. Our leaders were inspired by the stories shared and the collective spirit of service and compassion. It was a day filled with reflection, prayer, and a renewed commitment to living out the mission of the Church in our daily lives.
We are proud of our Year 6 leaders for their participation and for representing our school with such grace and enthusiasm. Their experience at the Mission Mass will undoubtedly enrich their understanding of mission and strengthen their dedication to making a positive difference in the world.
