Newsletter Term 3, Week 6, 2023
Principal's Update
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Term 3, Week 6!
We welcome Ms Natalie Stoten who is our presenter in the Healthy Harold Life Education van here at St Brendan’s. I hope your children enjoy the experience and learn many fun facts!
We are celebrating Book Week this week. The theme is “Read, Grow, Inspire”. Thank you to Mrs Ward for organising the Book Fair last week and thank you to our families who have supported this fair. Wow, amazing Book Week costumes were seen at our Book Week parade on Wednesday! There are many, many more photos on our facebook page over this week.
We also had an Illustrator, Gwynneth Jones, visit us at St Brendan’s. She read us a story and showed us her illustrations and spoke about what her life as an illustrator is like.
Techmatics Enrichment Day
On Wednesday Adelynn, Flynn, Ollie, Oliver, Poppy, Alex, Logan and Emery from our Year 3 and 4 classes attended an enrichment day at Wyong. The children met many children from other Catholic primary schools, joined with them in groups to participate in Sphero activities, green screen, scavenger hunt and code4fun drones.
Fathers Day
Father’s Day is approaching! Please be sure to RSVP so we can confirm catering. You will find the invite below and link to RSVP.
"Dragon News" from Year 3
This is shared text from Year 3 writing lesson “Dragon News”. It’s very clever, well done Year 3.
Plus some “Eyewitness accounts” from Year 3!
School Disco
Last week we had a school disco at The Halekulani Club! I have received many positive comments about the event and I know the support from our school community was fantastic. Some of the proceeds from the sale of the glow sticks and lolly bags will be put towards the Year 6 farewell. Thank you to our staff and parents/carers who attended to help with supervision and selling of the items available. A few points I noticed at the disco include:
- Long lines to enter the club, especially the infants disco – perhaps if we have it there next year, we will start the disco earlier to have more dancing time. Families arrive a little earlier to sign into the club
- Perhaps the club might organise a set menu so avoid the wait for dinners
- It was a great night for adults to socialise again while their children were at the disco
Teaching News
Mrs Di Donato has decided to resign her position teaching Italian at St Brendan’s. We wish her well and thank you for bringing a touch of Italy to Lake Munmorah during the many years Mrs Di Donato has taught at St Brendan’s. These lessons will be replaced with Digital Technology delivered by Mrs S (Mrs Shiu-Haskins).
We do have a couple of teachers returning to Lake Munmorah after their maternity leave. We have welcomed back Mrs Madeline Martin this term. Next term Mrs Laura Lewis will return to teach with Miss Zietsch on Year 4Red. Miss Zietsch will teach Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Mrs Lewis will teach 4Red on Thursday and Friday.
Some of our lovely teachers will commence their maternity leave in the coming weeks. We wish them all the best and can’t wait to meet their new addition to their families.
Mrs O’Brien’s last day on Year 5 will be Friday 1st September (Week 7)
Mrs Anderson’s last day on Kindergarten will be Friday 8th September (Week 8)
Mrs DesBrulais last day in her learning support teacher role will be Term 4, Week 3, Friday 27th October.
