Newsletter Term 3, 2024 Week 4
Principal's Update
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Term 3, Week 4!
We have so many talented children here at SBLM – wait until you see our whole school performance “Shine Bright Live Meaningful” on 28th August – be sure you buy your tickets asap! On Thursday, 22nd August we will have a full dress rehearsal therefore your children are to wear their “costumes” they have organised to wear at the Shine Bright Live Meaningful performance. Thank you to any parents and carers who have contacted Samantha Beveridge to help with transporting our school stage over to Lake Munmorah High School. Even if you don’t have a trailer, your assistance would be appreciated to lift the stage from any trailer etc. Please email Samantha on Samantha.beveridge@dbb.catholic.edu.au if you are able to help. More hands the easier the job!
Kindergarten visited BlackButt reserve for their first school excursion on Wednesday. They braved a little drizzle and enjoyed seeing the animals and “patting reptiles”!!!!! Well done Kindergarten and thank you teachers and parents for your enthusiasm on the day!
We will be conducting some emergency drills in the next couple of weeks, a lock down on Monday, 19th and an evacuation on Monday 26th – these will just be drills and the children will be supported throughout these drills by their teachers and aides.
As previously advertised, we are moving from Cowan & lewis uniform supplier to Yeronga Uniform supplies. Yeronga will be taking over the contract as of 3rd September. They will continue to sell existing uniforms for us out of the uniform shop at school. This will be open on Friday, 6th September from 8.15-9.15am (TBC). An eftpos machine etc will be available. I should be in a position to let you know what stock they will have on hand closer to the day, in the meantime you are still able to buy online from Cowan & Lewis as usual.

We have overcrowded buses! I would like our school community to be aware that myself and Mr Murdoch at St Brigid’s are emailing, calling, counting etc to hopefully stop the overcrowding. We have contacted Busways, Transport NSW, our local member and now I have been in contact with the legal and governance team at Catholic Schools Broken Bay.
We are certainly trying but we still need you to do two things:
- Apply for your free Opal card
- Place any complaints in the link below
- Continue to email myself so I can also pass your concerns to CSBB.
This is the Customer Feedback page at Transport NSW. Customers can lodge their feedback/complaints/compliments and a case will be generated, triaged and assigned to the correct team(s).

I have been visiting our initialit classes in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 and witnessed so much positive learning in their literacy learning. Children are learning phonemes, digraphs, trigraphs, sentence writing and reading – they are super engaged! We also gather data to identify any gaps which we address with smaller Minilit intervention groups from K-2.
This week a small group of staff members have been trained in Macqlit, which will now provide literacy intervention groups in Years 3 and 4 to start with! If your child is involved in these intervention groups, you will be notified.
Father’s Day stall helpers – If you are available to help please contact Victoria Price, our Parent Engagement Coordinator (Victoria.price@dbb.catholic.edu.au). If you are a regular helper it would be great if you can contact Victoria to add your local expertise! The stall is on Thursday, 29th August from 8.20-10.20am (please arrive earlier to set up tables in the hall please).
Father’s Day BBQ helpers – If you are available to help please contact Victoria Price, our Parent Engagement Coordinator (Victoria.price@dbb.catholic.edu.au). Our Father’s day BBQ is on Friday, 30th August!

Upon looking at some data collected on what parent courses you would like SBLM to provide, we notice there has not been too much interest. We have decided to put together some short sharp videos together focusing on literacy, numeracy, resilience etc. We will then make these available to our parent community to view at your leisure when you have time! When we make these available to you, I would really appreciate some feedback!

Athletes Foot
On Friday we had some special visitors from @theathletesfoottuggerah who presented our school with a cheque as part of their School Rewards Program for 2024. Thank you to the families who visited The Athlete’s Foot at Tuggerah for your new school and sports shoes and mentioned St Brendan's. This money will go towards new sporting equipment for our students to enjoy!
Thank you to all the children, staff and parents who put a smile on my face when I received lovely cards, a yummy afternoon tea, cake and most of all so many lovely comments on Principals’ Day just gone! I got such a surprise! As I mentioned at assembly and to the SBLM staff, I love my role and I love being back at St Brendan’s after so many years but I can’t do it alone. Our SBLM team includes staff, students and parents and I know we have a great team. Thank you!
God Bless,
