Newsletter Term 4, 2024 Week 2
Principal's Update
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to SBLM, we are now in Term 4 Week 2. I hope you have all had a lovely break and ready for a great term.
If you have a chance, please come in and have a look at our SBLM Community Garden. I would like to thank so many people (mums, dads, grandparents, great grandparent, teachers, staff, students) for their contributions in planning, preparing and putting together the Garden. As you can see they did a great job!
The garden bed in the centre of our garden is actually a floral arrangement depicting St Brendan’s anchor – this was in the design by one of our parents, Thanks Amy.
I would also like to thank and acknowledge all the parents and children who came to help in the holidays. A special mention to Daniel (father of Christian and Alex), Ben (father of Josie and Rachael), Ed (father of Eddy), Luke (father of Felix and Liv) also for our design Amy (mother of Jonah, Xavier and Lailah). So many donations from these parents including their time emailing and organising and preparing for our working bee. I would also like to thank our parents who are watering and looking at the upkeep of our SBLM Community garden. We even have a garden shed donated! You can see how much work has been put into this project “SBLM community garden” therefore I need all of us to look after it please – a few garden rules: No throwing or kicking pebbles, no running around inside the garden area, no picking things if they are not ready to pick!
I would like to invite you to our next PAG (Parent Advisory Group) meeting on Tuesday, 19th November at 5.30pm. We meet in the Year 5 Collaboration space/classrooms. If you have any agenda items please email them to me prior (Charlene.reid1@dbb.catholic.edu.au). This meeting goes for no longer than one hour, tea and coffee and snacks are provided.
Our future SBLM student leaders, our Year 5 students, will be attending their leadership camp this coming Thursday and Friday staying overnight on the Thursday night at Camp Toukley. We wish them all the best for this special experience and their preparation to become our 2025 leaders at St Brendan’s. Thank you to our teachers who will be attending and taking the time away from your own families.
Unfortunately our lovely Paige, one of our school counsellors/psychologist, has left SBLM to pursue other avenues. However, the good news is that Paige will be able to support us with ongoing assessments etc in her new role in private practice. We thank her for connecting with our school community, our children and staff. She has truly made a difference in our lives.
Our Kindergarten 2025 orientation and transition days have commenced this term. We meet and greet every Thursday from 8.45am-10am for 5 weeks. It’s lovely meeting new families and welcoming our existing families.
Year 6 Market day is next Wednesday. Please support the children by sending your children to school with money to buy foods and participate in games and activities – more information will be shared.
A huge thank you to all our wonderful parents and carers who sent in yummy treats for our amazing St Brendan’s staff to acknowledge and celebrate “Teachers’ Day” today (Friday). I would also like to publicly praise each and every staff member at St Brendan’s – they truly are present for you and your children, we make a great team and are dedicated to the achievements of your children. Thank you for supporting us today!
Congratulations to students who participated in the ICAS assessments this year. Unfortunately some children were absent when this photo was taken and certificates presented. If you would like your children to participate next year from Years 2-6 we will offer this again in 2025.
CSPA (Catholic Schools Parents Australia) is looking forward to hearing from parents with children at Catholic Schools: pre-primary, primary and secondary schools.
This CSPA national survey aims to collect evidence from a broad sample of parents/carers of children attending Catholic schools in Australia about existing and emerging affirmations and/or challenges they may have in relation to their child/children’s wellbeing and learning.

Get ready for an exciting lunch break! Our lunchtime clubs are now in full swing, offering a vibrant array of opportunities for students to explore throughout the week. If your child prefers a more cozy and quieter environment instead of the bustling playground, we wholeheartedly encourage them to dive into one of our clubs. CURRICULUM OVERVIEWS
This week, you should have received the Term 4 Curriculum Overview for your child's class via Compass. This document outlines the subjects being taught across the Key Learning Areas and provides information on your child's schedule for Physical Education, Library, and Digital Technologies. Additionally, it includes the contact details for your child's teacher.
CLICKVIEW
ClickView is a fantastic resource that you can use at home to enhance your child's learning experience. With access to a wide range of educational videos and interactive content, ClickView allows you to supplement classroom lessons with engaging material tailored to your child's interests and needs. This platform is particularly beneficial for reinforcing concepts taught in school, supporting homework assignments, or exploring new topics together. Its user-friendly interface makes it easy for you to find relevant content, fostering a collaborative learning environment where you can engage with your child and discuss what they’ve learned. By using ClickView, you can help create a rich educational experience outside of the classroom.
Catholic Schools Broken Bay has provided every child with access to Clickview for 2024 and 2025. They simply need their student email address to access the Clickview Platform. We have attached the Student User Guide and the Parent Flyer for your support. Please reach out to your class teacher if you require your child's CSBB email address.
GROOVIN THE GREEN - 8 NOVEMBER 2024
Join us for our Groovin' the Green Fair on Friday, November 8, 2024! This event is a wonderful opportunity for our community, and it relies on the support of all staff and, especially, our parents. We are in urgent need of more parent volunteers to help us prepare for the event and assist on the night. If you can lend a hand in any of the following areas, we would greatly appreciate it:
- Assembling lolly bags
- Decorating St. Brigid's
- Selling tickets
- Selling showbags
If you're able to help, please complete this form! We have plenty of lollies ready to be bagged and hope to do this next week, but we need enough volunteers to make it happen. Unfortunately, the lolly bags we previously prepared had to be distributed to students at the end of last term as an extra reward for adhering to our SBLM expectations.
Once you fill out the form, I’ll reach out to coordinate a time and place that works for everyone. Thank you for your support!
